Ripple Labs plans to commit an additional $5 million to fund academic research in the Asia-Pacific region and promote blockchain talent.
In a blog post on Tuesday, Ripple Labs will commit additional funding through the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), which funds universities in six countries, with new grants being allocated to universities in Taiwan and Australia.
UBRI has committed $1.1 million to Yonsei University in Korea through a six-year partnership. In Japan, UBRI has committed $1.5 million to Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. In Singapore, total funding is over $3 million at Nanyan University of Technology and the National University of Singapore.
Professor Yang Liu of Computing and Data Science at Nanyang University of Technology, which develops AI agents on XRP ledgers, said the grant has strengthened its research and development efforts.
“With current grants, we are developing an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP ledger and creating a transparent, modular, accessible, collaborative platform that leverages blockchain technology,” Li said.
In Taiwan, UBRI is partnering with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology to explore real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.
“Nkust is excited about this new chapter and will partner with Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) to investigate the potential for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization of XRP ledgers.”
In Australia, UBRI strengthened its relationship with the Australian National University and worked with the University of Victoria to bring a total allocation of $1.3 million across Australian universities.
